For us, the packaging is a big deal. After much research, we have decided on this packaging for bio enzymes. The bio enzymes are packed in upcycled plastic bottles. They are rescued and reused. As explained in our videos, we avoid using plastic, but as far as bio enzymes are concerned, we have chosen it for the following reasons;
1. Firstly, you need to understand that due to the very nature of bio enzymes, they produce some gases during their fermentation process. Though the gas production is significantly less after they are ready, it's still there. So it's risky to store them in glass bottles due to the breakage accident (as they may explode) or in metal containers (as they corrode easily), whereas plastic can expand without exploding. If we have to make them available to you, we only have one option: plastic packaging.
Instead of ordering new plastic bottles in bulk, we decided to reuse the existing wasted bottles. Plastic itself is not the problem, but single-use plastic is. If these bottles can be upcycled and reused, then why not. Buying new plastic was much more convenient than involving much of our labor in arranging, deep cleaning, and upcycling the old bottles, but this is where the challenge lies, right? We did our part by repurposing the reusable old bottles. Now it's your turn to repurpose or recycle it properly.
2. Due to many reasons, recycling is limited in the world. That is why we chose to upcycle the bottles instead of recycling them.
3. If you are worried about the plastic leaching into your enzymes, please don't worry, as the bio enzyme is a disinfectant that can neutralize any harmful toxins leaching out from the bottle. That is the reason we add them to our water tanks too. We can't remove plastic from the world, but we can learn to manage it effectively:)
